Drawing with Jayla

Artist Bio

Hello! I'm Jayla, the artist behind JFineArts, currently located in the State of North Carolina. I specialize in colored pencils, charcoal, graphite, paint, and more! I create entertainment content with art. My videos include content such as time-lapse drawings that I work on when using mediums such as Prismacolor colored pencils and Watercolor. I normally do portraiture and aim to get as many details within my work as possible; I also enjoy other art styles as well. Most of the work that you will see on my page consists of portraits and other work I have completed throughout the years, from high school to the present. I do commissions alongside other art that I create in my free time. I try to learn new art skills available to me for growth, and I aim to learn consistently from here on out.

I received my Associate’s degree in Art Education at SCC and am currently enrolled at UNCP, where I am working to earn my BFA while also building my portfolio.

In 2015 I decided that I wanted to help teach others the basics in art because I found satisfaction in knowing that I could help someone smile and learn to love art when understanding how to observe and create an image using just something as simple as a pencil, now I am excited to continue learning myself, so that I can maybe one day share what I have learned with others. I share most of my content updates on my Facebook and Instagram pages, ranging from school projects to commissions that I am currently working on. Feel free to email me if you have any other questions regarding commissions.

Artist’s Statement:

As an artist, I aim to achieve many skills and use those skills alongside my creativity to develop numerous works of art as of now and throughout my career. I use various mediums including: Oil, acrylic, and WaterColor paints, Prisma-Color Colored Pencils, Gouache, Charcoal, Graphite, and some digital media, usually done on canvas and/or paper, etc. I am inspired by anything that can catch my attention, whether it be books, music, culture, or even feelings that I may be experiencing during my process in personal work. My artwork has been influenced by many different artists, mostly those who have worked in portraiture, particularly Norman Rockwell and Heather Rooney. When working on any artwork, I tend to listen to music and/or audiobooks that coincide with the mood of my art that I may be working on during that time. By doing portraits, I aim to create an image of someone that can be seen later in years to come and may one day also be vital to future generations for historical purposes. I aim to create an intimate connection for my viewers to the portraits with thoughts on how the person within the artwork may have lived their lives and/or may have connections with family, acquaintances, etc. My work explores individuals’ personalities, facial features, and expressions through realistic visual perceptions given in detail with whatever medium I deem to use in my work. I hope to collaborate with other portrait artists and learn new techniques within various mediums in the future, along with sharing the knowledge I have thus far with other artists looking to advance in their art as well.
